2019 First Response Relay | Saturday May 11, 2019 @ 9:30AM
374 Sheppard Ave E, North York, M2N 3B6 (near Bayview Station)
Run or walk the annual 5 km Relay Route and join <your church name>’s team as we raise sponsorship in support for the Pregnancy Care Centre. Donations made through your participation in the Relay go directly towards helping people who might feel scared, alone, or anxious in an unexpected pregnancy have access to free pregnancy tests, options information, post abortion support, community referrals, and practical support. It is our deepest desire that all women and men are aware that there is help and hope in an unexpected pregnancy, and that they are not alone. Let’s support them and continue to pray that they would find meaning and joy in the purposes and plans that God has for them. <insert team goal>
You can also make use of this 1 minute video announcement:
Raise Funds – Get creative and set a goal! The PCC is counting on $70,000 being raised at this year’s Relay in order to provide critical support services for expectant moms this year.
Cheques can be made out to “Pregnancy Care Centre.” Hand in any collected cash or cheques when you arrive on Saturday, May 11th.
Our Goal: $70,000
Ask your friends, your family, or coworkers to sponsor you on your walk or run to help reach your goal. Donations from this event helps individuals seeking pregnancy support by funding access to free pregnancy tests, options information, post abortion support, community referrals, and practical support in a confidential, non-judgment, and no-pressure environment.
How many women will your team support this relay?
Think about who you’re asking. You know the people around you! If you know your friend is not a Facebook person, don’t expect them to respond to your post on Facebook. Communicate with them where it is comfortable for them. Make it easy for them to make a donation! Send them a direct link to your fundraising page. You are welcome to pick up brochures, prayer cards, and relay promotional materials in our offices. Feel free to make use of pre-made content in our downloadable promotional materials packet – share it on your social media! Let us know what you need to help you as you reach out to your friends, family, church, and co-workers. Contact us to arrange a time to pick up your desired materials.
Set a goal. The average donor makes a donation of $100 to events like the Relay. To receive lunch, and to be eligible to win sponsored prizes, participants need to raise at least $50. Include a mention of your goal in your letter! Yes, it takes $500 to see one woman through one year of pregnancy support, but you aren’t asking people to give $500! You could ask 10 people to give $50 or if you think you could ask more than 10 people, how about asking 20 people to give $25?
Share your reasons. Why are you participating in the First Response Relay? Why is the Pregnancy Care Centre important to you? Your friends may not want to read our website or newsletter but they will want to hear about why this charity is important to you. Maybe it’s because you knew someone who needed help in an unexpected pregnancy or maybe someone who has suffered from a past abortion.
Share a story that inspired you. Maybe it was a piece of scripture that touched your heart or maybe you saw a PCC Mom’s video story and that’s what inspired you to fundraise for the Pregnancy Care Centre. Share what inspired you with those you ask! Want to check out stories of other PCC Moms? Click here.
Use your online fundraising page. Add pictures and/or videos. Inspire people to donate and provide help to individuals seeking pregnancy support. Take a look at our YouTube library, and share stories, of women that have been served by the PCC! If you share your fundraising page on social media, tag us and we’ll repost it on our main page! Here’s our Instagram and Facebook!
Nervous about asking? Be bold and have courage. Think about it this way: donations made through your participation in the Relay go directly towards helping people who might feel scared, alone, or anxious in an unexpected pregnancy. The donations made by your friends, family, co-workers, or church fund access to services like free pregnancy tests, options information, post abortion support, community referrals, and practical support so that individuals looking for help in an unexpected pregnancy can find it!
It’s okay to follow-up. Life gets busy and sometimes we read letters, emails, texts, messages without responding. Ask, remind them once, and send everyone one more message a few days before the Relay.
Don’t forget to say thank you! Feel free to share selfies from the event and/or your total fundraised!
Run/Walk 5km – Come on Saturday, May 11th at 9:30am with your walking shoes, and the donations you’ve collected. Let’s walk together and show them we care!

About the Pregnancy Care Centre
Saddle up, get sponsors, and participate in the 5km walk. All proceeds you collect will directly support women and men making life-changing pregnancy decisions.
Love for Christ and love for human life are the foundation of the Pregnancy Care Centre’s mission. Over the past 34 years, the PCC has supported women and men in pregnancy decision making.
PCC’s mission: We provide compassionate community support to women and families facing an unexpected pregnancy so that they can thrive without seeing abortion as their only option.
In an unexpected pregnancy, many individuals can’t see how their lives could flourish with a child. It is our deepest desire that all women and men are aware that there is help in an unexpected pregnancy, and that they are not alone. Let’s support them and continue to pray that they would find meaning and joy in the purposes and plans that God has for them.
Let’s celebrate these moms. We care. We want to help. Your support can remind her that there is help, that she is not alone, and that she can flourish in fulfilling all God’s purposes for her.
Where is the Relay? The Relay begins and ends at The Peoples Church (374 Sheppard Ave E, North York, M2N 3B6 near Bayview Station).
What is the Route? Click here to view the relay route map.
What’s for Lunch? Lunch will be catered by “Fire It Up BBQ Catering” this year! There will also be muffins and coffee for breakfast.
Why is it called a Relay? Relays require individuals working together. How beautiful it is when Christians unite to support women who are alone and pregnant. The Christian community of Toronto is essential to encouraging women and men making life-changing pregnancy decisions. The purpose of the relay is to bring together churches across Toronto in passing the baton of care and help in support of individuals in unexpected pregnancies. Let’s be the hands and feet of Christ. Let’s walk together and show them we care!
Do I have to Dress-Up? It is not necessary to dress up, but we are highly encouraging it! Come on out in your favourite pair of jeans and plaid shirt, or go the extra mile and wear a cowboy hat! Past PCC t-shirts are also welcome.
Is it better to register as a team or on my own? As a team, you can collectively work towards a goal. Many churches will register as teams for a bit of friendly competition. You don’t have to be part of a team to participate. There will be plenty of people of all ages for you to walk with and meet. Please call us at 416-229-2607 if you have any questions.
Is there parking available? Yes on the other side of the church parking lot.
Can I bring my children? Absolutely! This isn’t a race, so the Relay is stroller and kid friendly. Kids 12 and under eat free!
What happens if it rains? The Relay will be taking place rain or shine! We will be able to eat indoors in the case of rain.
Do you need volunteers for the day? Yes! Contact us for more information.
How do I add cash or cheque donations to my Online Fundraising Page? You can add offline donations to your online fundraising page. Log into your CanadaHelps account and navigate to the team’s fundraising page. Click edit to view the managing controls of the page. Under the Donations tab, at the bottom right hand corner, there is an offline donation button. Input the details of the cash/cheque donation and click save! The next time you view your page, this amount will be included in the fundraising thermometer. *Please do not deposit cash or cheque donations to your personal accounts and proceed to make a donation from your name online as this triggers a receipt to be made out to you instead of your sponsor. Offline donations are sent receipts for all of 2019 in February 2020 via mail. Please make note of offline sponsors’ addresses so that a receipt can be mailed to them.
Will the people who make a donation to support my goal receive a receipt? Yes, all donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt. Please do not deposit cash or cheque donations to your personal accounts and proceed to make a donation from your name online as this triggers a receipt to be made out to you instead of your sponsor. Offline donations are sent receipts for all of 2019 in February 2020 via mail. Please make note of offline sponsors’ addresses so that a receipt can be mailed to them.
Do I need to register online if I’m only collecting cash or cheque sponsors? To register, you will need to send us a quick email at email@example.com so we know you are coming.
