Let us know you plan to walk 5 km on Saturday, May 12, 2018! Last year, approximately 400 people came out to walk/jog/run with us. The relay begins 9:00 AM at Willowdale Baptist Church at 15 Olive Ave, Toronto, ON, M2N 4N4 (near Yonge & Finch). Plan to arrive by 9:00AM to hand in your forms, grab some coffee, and/or collect your T-shirt* (Click here for size chart). Come out this Mother’s Day Weekend in support of our PCC Moms and their families!

Call us at 416-229-2607 if you do not have an email address, or if you prefer to register by phone.

+ What is a pledge form?

A Pledge form or a Superhero Sponsor Sheet just might be your most helpful tool in the relay. Not only is it a template for you to keep track of the friends, family, or coworkers who have donated or promised to donate to you, but it comes equipped with some handy facts you can use to help answer questions about the Pregnancy Care Centre. For example: “What does my sponsorship do to help?”, “What does the Pregnancy Care Centre do?”, and “What’s PCC’s contact information?” Download your pledge form.

+ How Can I Promote the Relay at my Church?

There are 8.5×11 posters and 4×6 flyers available for pick-up at PCC’s Scarborough, North York, and Downtown offices (click here for addresses and hours). Contact us to arrange a time to pick up your materials! You can also ask your Church to add short blurb about the Relay to their bulletin or website (see below for a sample).

2018 First Response Relay | Saturday May 12, 2018 @ 9 AM
15 Olive Ave, Toronto, ON, M2N 4N4 (near Yonge & Finch)
Run or walk the annual 5 km Relay Route and join <your church name>’s team as we raise sponsorship in support for the Pregnancy Care Centre. Donations made through your participation in the Relay go directly towards helping people who might feel scared, alone, or anxious in an unexpected pregnancy have access to free pregnancy tests, options information, post abortion support, community referrals, and practical support. In an unexpected pregnancy, many individuals can’t see how their lives could flourish with a child. It is our deepest desire that all women and men are aware that there is help and hope in an unexpected pregnancy, and that they are not alone. Let’s support them and continue to pray that they would find meaning and joy in the purposes and plans that God has for them.

Raise Funds

Raise Funds – Get creative and set a goal! Your goal might be to ask 3 people or 20 people to support you. Alternatively, your goal might be to raise $50 or $500. The PCC is counting on $60,000 being raised at this year’s Relay in order to provide critical support services for expectant moms this year.

Ask your friends, your family, or coworkers to sponsor you on you walk or run to help reach your goal. Donations from this event helps individuals seeking pregnancy help by funding access to free pregnancy tests, options information, post abortion support, community referrals, and practical support in a confidential, non-judgment, and no-pressure environment.

+ Fundraising Tips

Make it personal. If you send out a letter, email, or message to someone, make sure it’s personal! No one likes a mass email. Start your ask with “Dear Bob, how are you?” or “Hi Shirley, how’s it going?” instead of “Hey everyone,” or “Hi there.” If you prefer communicating face-to-face, have a conversation! Talk about your past experiences with the Relay or with PCC and why you’re participating in this event.

Think about who you’re asking. You know the people around you! If you know your friend is not a Facebook person, don’t expect them to respond to your post on Facebook. Communicate with them where it is comfortable for them. Make it easy for them to make a donation! Send them a direct link to your fundraising page. You are welcome to pick up brochures, prayer cards, and relay promotional materials in our offices. Feel free to make use of pre-made content in our downloadable promotional materials packet – share it on your social media! Let us know what you need to help you as you reach out to your friends, family, church, and co-workers. Contact us to arrange a time to pick up your desired materials.

Set a goal. The average donor makes a donation of $50 to events like the Relay. To receive a t-shirt, lunch, and to be eligible to win sponsored prizes, participants need to raise at least $50. Include a mention of your goal in your letter! Yes, it takes $500 to see one woman through one year of pregnancy support, but you aren’t asking people to give $500! You could ask 10 people to give $50 or if you think you could ask more than 10 people, how about asking 20 people to give $25?

Past Relay Fundraisers:

Most people asked by an individual participant: 54

Most raised by an individual participant: $1,135.00

Share your reasons. Why are you participating in the First Response Relay? Why is the Pregnancy Care Centre important to you? Your friends may not want to read our website or newsletter but they will want to hear about why this charity is important to you. Maybe it’s because you knew someone who needed help in an unexpected pregnancy or maybe someone who has suffered from a past abortion.

Share a story that inspired you. Maybe it was a piece of scripture that touched your heart or maybe you saw a PCC Mom’s video story and that’s what inspired you to fundraise for the Pregnancy Care Centre. Share what inspired you with those you ask! Want to check out stories of other PCC Moms? Click here.

Use your online fundraising page. Add pictures and/or videos. Inspire people to donate and provide help to individuals seeking pregnancy support. Take a look at our YouTube library, our Blog, for stories and content that you can share! If you share your fundraising page on social media, tag us and we’ll repost it on our main page! Here’s our Instagram and Facebook!

Nervous about asking? Be bold and have courage. Think about it this way: donations made through your participation in the Relay go directly towards helping people who might feel scared, alone, or anxious in an unexpected pregnancy. The donations made by your friends, family, co-workers, or church fund access to services like free pregnancy tests, options information, post abortion support, community referrals, and practical support so that individuals looking for help in an unexpected pregnancy can find it!

It’s okay to follow-up. Life gets busy and sometimes we read letters, emails, texts, messages without responding. Ask, remind them once, and send everyone one more message a few days before the Relay.

Don’t forget to say thank you! Feel free to share selfies from the event and/or your total fundraised!

About the Pregnancy Care Centre

Suit up, get sponsors, and participate in the 5km walk. All proceeds you collect will directly support women and men making life-changing pregnancy decisions.

Love for Christ and love for human life are the foundation of the Pregnancy Care Centre’s mission. Over the past 32 years, the PCC has supported women and men in pregnancy decision making.

PCC’s mission: We exist so that no one feels alone in an unexpected pregnancy. No one needs to believe that abortion is their only option.

Join us on Saturday, May 12th over Mother’s Day Weekend as we support women and men making life-changing pregnancy decisions. Let’s celebrate Supermoms!

In an unexpected pregnancy, many individuals can’t see how their lives could flourish with a child. It is our deepest desire that all women and men are aware that there is help in an unexpected pregnancy, and that they are not alone. Let’s support them and continue to pray that they would find meaning and joy in the purposes and plans that God has for them.

Let’s celebrate these moms. We care. We want to help. Your support can remind her that there is help, that she is not alone, and that she can flourish in fulfilling all God’s purposes for her.

The First Response Relay Relays require individuals working together. How beautiful it is when Christians unite to support women who are pregnant and alone. Let’s walk together and show them we care!

+ Why is it called a 'First Response Relay'?

The Christian community of Toronto is essential to encouraging women and men making life-changing pregnancy decisions that there is help and hope in an unexpected pregnancy. The purpose of the relay is to bring together churches across Toronto in passing the baton of care and help in support of individuals in unexpected pregnancies.

As Christians, we know about the love and hope that is Jesus Christ and it is our deepest desire that all women and men are aware that there is help and hope in an unexpected pregnancy, and that they are not alone. Let’s support them and continue to pray that they would find meaning and joy in the purposes and plans that God has for them.

F.A.Q.

Where is the Relay?     The Relay begins at Willowdale Baptist Church at 15 Olive Ave, Toronto, ON, M2N 4N4 (near Yonge & Finch). We will be stopping at church relay checkpoints along the 5KM route.

Why is it called a Relay?     Relays require individuals working together. How beautiful it is when Christians unite to support women who are alone and pregnant. Let’s be the hands and feet of Christ. Let’s walk together and show them we care!

How do I register myself or my Relay Team?     Click here to register. Please call us at 416-229-2607 or email us at events@pregnancycarecentre.org if you have any questions.

Is it better to register as a team or on my own?      As a team, you can collectively work towards a goal. Many churches will register as teams for a bit of friendly competition. You don’t have to be part of a team to participate. There will be plenty of people of all ages for you to walk with and meet. Please call us at 416-229-2607 if you have any questions.

Is there parking available?    Yes. The church parking lot will be reserved for the seating area. Please note there is no parking on Doris Ave but lots of parking on side streets east of Doris Ave.

Can I bring my children?      Absolutely! This isn’t a race, so the Relay is stroller and kid friendly.  Superkids 12 and under eat free! (Superhero attire encouraged, prizes to be won)

What happens if it rains? The Relay will be taking place rain or shine! We will be able to eat indoors in the case of rain.

Do you need volunteers for the day? Yes! Contact us for more information.

How do I add cash or cheque donations to my Online Fundraising Page?    Team Captains can add offline donations to their team’s online fundraising page. Have your team captain log into their CanadaHelps account and navigate to the team’s fundraising page. Click edit to view the managing controls of the team page. Under the Donations tab, at the bottom right hand corner, there is an offline donation button. Input the details of the cash/cheque donation and click save! The next time you view your team’s page, this amount will be included in the fundraising thermometer. Please do not deposit cash or cheque donations to your personal accounts and proceed to make a donation from your name online as this triggers a receipt to be made out to you instead of your sponsor. Offline donations are sent receipts for all of 2018 in February 2019 via mail. Please make note of offline sponsors’ addresses so that a receipt can be mailed to them.

Will the people who make a donation to support my goal receive a receipt? Yes, all donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt.

Do I need to register online if I’m only collecting cash or cheque sponsors? Yes! Registering online ensures that we can order enough food and t-shirts for everyone who plans to come. Please register before May 1st online or by calling 416-229-2607.

What if I don’t have a Relay Team? No problem! You can be a Team of 1! There will be plenty of people of all ages for you to walk with and meet.

What if I can’t attend on May 12th?

No matter your part, your help is making an impact. It is our deepest desire that all women and men are aware that there is help in an unexpected pregnancy, and that they are not alone. Let’s support them and continue to pray that they would find meaning and joy in the purposes and plans that God has for them.
